What Happened Before?
The Commagene Biennial opens its doors this year for the first time with these questions. Under the theme “Can We Build an Imaginary Civilization?”, 53 artists from more than 20 countries will gather in Adıyaman. The biennial, which will take place from August 20 to October 20, is curated by Nihat Özdal.
Exhibitions and artworks featured in the Biennial can be viewed at the following locations within the boundaries of Kahta District: Adalar, Nemrut, Arsemia, Kahta Castle, Cendere Bridge, and the Karakuş Tumulus.
This year, the CommageneLar Biennial has chosen the theme of “healing” as an international event for site-specific contemporary art, referencing the cyclical nature of historical periods and cultures, as well as the need for spiritual and economic rebirth in the wake of traumatic events in the recent past.
58 artists added new layers to the mysterious fabric of this region through sculptures, videos, and site-specific installations.
